100 YEARS!
We
had an excellent Meet and
Greet in February when we
celebrated Wyn Peters' 100th
birthday. A lot of members
attended and Wyn was on great
form. We
were delighted to welcome the
Mayor of Taunton and his wife
to the celebrations. The
100th Birthday Cake was
magnificent!

Help
with Meeting and Greeting
potential new members!
We
do need more volunteers to act
as 'Meeters and Greeters'.
Sometimes we get a number of
prospective new members
arriving at the same time and,
while the Meeters and Greeters
are involved with earlier
arrivals, later arrivals get
left to wait. If you think you
could help occasionally please
contact Dorothy Ingram on 251625.

| COMMITTEE |
Our
new Chairman is
actually a lady. She is Jane
Dickson who has also
taken on being the editor of our
newsletter. Jane is quite a new
member but has had a lot of
experience on committees and with
U3A when she belonged to Tunbridge
Wells U3A. She has lots of ideas
and will, I am sure, be an
excellent person to take over from
Jack. [Nov 11]

| SPECIAL INTEREST DAY |
This is a day when all the
local U3As take it in turns to
organise a special event. Our turn
will be in 2013. This seems a long
time away but organising such a
day takes a lot of work so we have
already started on it.
The committee is made up of
Dorothy Ingram, Joy Abnett, Janet
Jones, Ron Cann and myself.
We have booked the Temple
Methodist Church for Saturday 18th
May 2013.
We are now in the process of
organising speakers and visits.
We intend keeping you up-to-date
with our progress although, once
the preliminaries have been
settled, there will probably be a
bit of a gap until closer to the
time when we will be asking for
help from members to assist with
the actual running of the day. [Nov 11]
Tickets for
the 2012 Special Interest Day
organised by Bridgwater U3A and
to be held on Saturday 23rd June
at Cannington College are now
available.
There will be two speakers and a
guided tour around the Walled
Garden. Tickets cost £12
with a buffet lunch at
£7.50 extra. Please
contact me, Sandy, on 01823
321038 if you want tickets. [Dec 11] |

NEW
GROUP!
ENQUIRING
MINDS
Are you often afraid to ask a
question because it might be the
wrong one to ask?
Do you often think of a good
question and then find that it's
gone?
How good are you at listening to
other people's ideas?
Do you think that other people
always have better thoughts than
you?
What do you think about? Can you
think of more than one idea at a
time?
Do you find it difficult to
articulate your ideas to other
people?
If the answer to most of these
questions is yes (or even no) than
you might be interested in joining
a new U3A group called Enquiring
Minds where there are no
'right answers' just good
questions.
We start by posing an interesting
question, then asking people to
ask a question about the question
or make a statement about it.
After we have collected all the
questions or statements we then
vote on the one question we would
like to discuss. From this there
is then an interesting and open
enquiry about the chosen question
and during the debate we become a
Community of Enquirers.
This new group is hoping to start
in the New Year. For more
information please contact the
convenor on 01823
